Carlevana Winery is one of the most forward-looking companies in the wine branch of the Republic of Moldova, which enjoys a dynamic development, with the main goal of producing high quality wines, which would bring the fame of the Republic abroad!
Carlevana Winery is located in the heart of Moldova, the village of Merenii Noi (New Mereni), 25 km from Chisinau. The geographical location protects the vineyards from winter frosts and summer drought. The company is a whole winemaking complex. The whole process starts with tending the vines and ends with filling the bottles with wine. The preparation for sale is controlled by Carlevana Winery company experts.
Carlevana has approximately 151h of vine plantations: 41h right near Mereni and 110h 20-25km away in the village of Cretoaia. At Carlevana, the wines are made from the following varieties: Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling de Rhin, Merlot, Malbec, Muscat Ottonel, Cabernet Sauvignon and Rara Neagra, but we also grow varieties that are rarely found in our country, such as Sauvingnon Gris, Pinot Gris. Their average age is 14-15 years, meaning the vines are in full force. The vineyards are treated with care and love, to produce wines of the highest quality, characterized by elegance, excellence and originality.
Carlevana Winery is a pioneer in Moldova vines, being the first to introduce the famous Western technology in the field of winemaking. In addition, for the first time in Moldova, Ice Wine was produced exclusively at Carlevana Winery. This wine is made here using classic technology. The history of Carlevana Winery begins in 1959 and is closely related to the history of the wine culture of the Republic of Moldova from the post-war period. In this period, the foundation of the Moldvinprom system begins – the only giant in the branch of viticulture and winemaking, with large areas of vine plantations, with a safe system of delimitation of varieties and protection of plantations. The winery becomes an integral part of the “Moldvinprom” system. 6 modern flow lines were installed for grape processing, with a production capacity of 10 t/hour each. The production capacity of the enterprise was 10 thousand tons of grapes for one season.
In 1996, after the privatization process, a new stage in the company’s history begins. The enterprise was reorganized into an open joint-stock company. A new Italian line was installed for the bottling of grape wines and the company’s activity is gradually shifting to the production of bottled products. Until 1999, the company increases its volume of bottled production and is included in the number of the 15 leading companies of the branch in the Republic.
Starting with 1999, the enterprise started the production program of elite wines. The project to produce elite wines by the company’s specialists and specially invited winemakers (Stratan Constantin, Curdov Stepan) is launched.
The production sector at all stages is retooled to use the world’s highest performances in the branch of winemaking, which allow the full exploitation of the potential of the vine grapes. Simultaneously with these works, wine promotion activities are taking place on foreign markets. In 2002, the wines produced by Carlevana Winery became the only wines included in the catalog “The 1000 best world wines”, published by the Society of French Enologists, according to the results of the Vinalies Internationales competition. Thanks to the coordinated work of our technologists under the leadership of our associates, Carlevana Winery wines regularly receive medals and diplomas at numerous national and international competitions and specialized exhibitions.
